Bärenbrezel

The timeless flavors of the Bärenbrezel pretzel pay tribute to the centuries-old craft of German baking. Beginning with a unique sourdough, each pretzel is hand rolled into a double twist then sliced at the base to create its characteristic grin. This recipe and rolling technique enhance the tangy crust and doughy texture that pretzel lovers have sought for generations.

The
Bärenbrezel
Story

Bärenbrezel’s story began in 1950s Brooklyn, where a young Harris Golden fell in love with the piping hot pretzels sold by street vendors. That early fascination grew into a lifelong pursuit of crafting the perfect pretzel.

In 1995, after years as an executive chef and cookbook author, Harris opened a pretzel bakery in National City, California. Nearly three decades later, the hand rolled Bärenbrezel was born, rooted in traditional Bavarian techniques and made with care.

Harris’ legacy continues with his son, Tyler Golden, who grew up working the pretzel carts and learning the craft firsthand. Tyler is bringing the Bärenbrezel flavor to Los Angeles, sharing a family tradition with a whole new community. On top of that, a portion of each pretzel sale will be donated to LA Recovery Connect, a nonprofit supporting people in Recovery in Jefferson Park.
